چکیده
This paper focuses on the Brazilian Portuguese (PB) prosodic phrasing and has two main goals: (1) to find a correlation between constituents boundaries, as described by Prosodic Hierarchy Theory (Nespor & Vogel, 2007 [1986], a.o.) perception production of spontaneous reading speech breaks, (2) describe phonological characteristics syntactic ranking perceived non edges. The corpus under analysis includes 5 extracts both lasting about 2 minutes each. (LE) emerged from (FE) orthographic transcription which was collected an interview in informal environment. In test, 11 referees heard 10 speaking extracts, without punctuation, marked breaks each them. Both speakers were students at UFRJ, born Rio de Janeiro, 22 38 years old.The results point out that are mainly intonational phrase (I) boundary, regardless style (FE: 91%; LE 99%). However, LE, 64% foreseen I Theory, but FE, just 37% perceived. most usual nuclear contour styles is H+L* L% (this being neutral declarative contour), its occurrence frequency draws distinction FE (67% 30%, respectively). contours like L+H* H% L*+H also produced (34%). general, descendant nuclei predominant, well edge tone L; ascendant distribution low or high boundaries similar. After running statistic appearance L edge, predictive for perception, globally significant. Concerning it statistically checked result points matrix limit (LE: 59%; FE: 61%,), showing endurance edge/I boundary mapping. proved have bigger variation relation predicted, produced, expected, confirmed statistics. Therefore, show fairly robust styles, once only 13% predicted not been so, regarding intonation. Besides, 1,4% (f) (and Is) referees. With this study one may conclude share same grammar, performed type phonological/syntactic cues; nevertheless, these more consistent disperse way adding greater difficulty systematic than LE.

Prosody, syntax, and pragmatics: insubordination in spoken Brazilian Portuguese
In this paper, we approach the phenomenon of insubordination in spoken Brazilian Portuguese through data on adverbial clauses extracted from the C-ORAL-BRASIL corpus [Raso and Mello 2012]. Differently from the traditional conception of insubordination [Evans 2007], we propose a synchronic view, strongly based on the analysis of the prosody/pragmatics interface in spoken language. We show that i...
متن کاملThe Prosody of Negation in Brazilian Portuguese
Sentential negation in spoken Brazilian Portuguese (BP) has three possible structures: containing a negative particle only preverbally (NEG1), pre and post verbally (NEG2) or only post-verbally (NEG3). The choice of structure depends on sociolinguistic and pragmatic factors. This study investigates whether these structures also differ in prosodic patterns. NEG3 is of particular interest: since ...

The goal of this study is to investigate the structuring of speech in terms of prosodic boundaries in spontaneous dialogues in Swedish. In particular, the relation between boundaries as perceived by listeners, and their acoustic and linguistic realizations as uttered by speakers is examined.
متن کاملSecond Position and the Prosody-syntax Interface
Bögel et al. (2009) outlined a new architecture for modeling the interaction between prosody and syntax: we proposed an arrangement of interacting components in which prosodic information is developed in a module that operates independently of the syntax while still allowing for syntactic rules and preferences to be conditioned on prosodic boundaries and other features. This architecture allows...
متن کاملProsodic analysis of Brazilian Portuguese attitudes
This paper presents the prosodic analysis of a corpus of Brazilian Portuguese attitudes. Attitudes are separated between the social and propositional categories, and performed either with an assertive or an interrogative modality. Previous studies show the particular relevance of prosodic cues for propositional attitudes, while visual cues are more relevant for social ones. This paper shows tha...
